Rating  - Works great, but low on accessories.
We have used these little talkies more than we ever expected to. Even in our house! We've been on several vacations where these buggers saved the trip. They are especially convenient when you want to take two cars and need to meet someplace.
But all of that could be said of other top brand radios I suppose. I like these because the antennae flip down for when you stuff 'em in your pack and they look cool. They are durable; we've had no problems with ours. They come with a detachable belt clip which is useful and solid. They are, as I understand it, compatible with Motorolla brand radios too, so you can mingle with friends on the slopes etc. Clear sound. Multiple, multiple frequencies that are simple to choose from.
A general downside to all these radios is that they say 2-mile but are 1-mile range if you are lucky. So allign your expectations.
Also, I think it may be hard to find accessories for the Kenwood brand (I haven't ever found any), like re-charger stations, etc. They do go through batteries pretty fast so some sort of rechargeable batteries are recommended... You might want to look into it.

I like the way the Kenwood radio feels, it is a good weight, and the ergonomics are good. They have good range and a lot of nice features, like the out of range indicator. The only drawback to the Kenwood is that not many places sell accessories for it. The Motorola radios have many accessories and you can buy them almost anywhere.
Rating - Kenwood Free Talk Radio Quality
I purchased two of these radios for my son, I am not able to walk very well and he felt they would be useful when he and his wife took me places to save me some steps. He has been a long time user of Kenwood communication products, and searched for some time before finding anyone that had any in stock. After receiving the radios from Amazon.com he understood why they were hard to find. He was very pleased to find that the Kenwood quality he was used to was made into these small radios. The Kenwood UBZ-LH14 has many feature not found in other brands of family radios such as,in range, voice scrambler, and power saver to list only a few. The Kenwood UBZ-LH14 is slightly more difficult to operate than some others due to the many options it offers, and it is helpful if you have some knowledge of operating electronics to make full use of all the features it has. I give the radio five stars for the quality of the product, number of features and the amazingly low price that Amazon.com has offered the radio for.
