Rating  - A Great Value!
These are amazingly smooth-sounding speakers--much better than the $120 Advents they replaced. They have excellent imaging and present a surprising amount of detail from the music. I listen to all kinds of music during my workday--dance, classical, 50s cool jazz, alternative, folk, country--and the Duets do justice to them all. I'm also glad that they have a small footprint and are fairly small overall, so space is not an issue.
Bass is ok, but if bass response is very important to you, you'll need to add a sub. These speakers don't do thumpa-thumpa or explosions.
Rating - Supplemental Speakers with Sound & Style
I am very happy with these speakers which I purchased to amplify the sound of my SONY VAIO laptop. They produce crisp highs, solid lows and a quality midrange on all types of programming both of music and of voice. I purchased the white ones for my kitchen where they match nicely with the other white decor: a toaster, microwave, clock radio, and flour and sugar cannisters.
My former set of speakers were cheaper but came with a bass floor unit. I do miss that floor unit a little as it added a warm and rich vibration to certain musical and vocal passages, but the bass response of these speakers seems to also resonnate well on the countertop where I have them positioned.
I really like the styling including the silvery sheen of the speaker cloth. The shape is also very artistic- like having a sculpted piece of art to enjoy as I go about working in my kitchen. Everything about these speakers makes me pleased with my choice. I wouldn't expect to do any better in the $40. range than this.
Rating  - buzzing noise and broke after two weeks
A faint buzzing noise was present which was especially noticible when speakers were ON while no audio signal from my computer was being sent to the speakers.
After two weeks of minimal use, the speakers didn't even turn on.
I think I must have gotten a bum pair, as the other reviews are good.
The speakers are stylish, but I couldn't judge the sound quality because of the buzzing or vibration noise.
Rating  - Great Speakers, Good Price, But Nothing Too Special
These speakers are great for the price. Don't expect too much out of them though. I think it's a little overhyped on amazon.com. I would definitely suggest these speakers to buyers who are looking for quality speakers with a good sound on a budget, and who doesn't care about having Excellent sounding speakers. The bass isn't that great either on these speakers. hope this helps. Oh, and the nob is hard to turn. I have to use two hands to turn the them off; one hand to keep the speakers stable. Oh, and there is an occasionally static sound, it happens quite frequently when you start using them but lessens as you use them more. And the speaker with the nob gets really hot sometimes but nothing to serious i think. They're good speakers though.
Rating - Great sounding speakers in a small package .
I listen to alot different music, from classical to primus to the alabama 3 and all of them sound great through these speakers. I was amazed at how well they sounded with bass heavy music blaring out of them.
I have had no problems with the knob being too hard to turn. one handed adjustments made with no probs.
Even gaming with these is good. They pick all the midrange sounds that my cheaper speakers missed out on and aren't at all "tinny" sounding like other small speakers. The one i'm currently playing actually sounds like a completely different game through these.
I was recommended these speakers by a friend, and am happy she told me about them.
