Rating - Yamaha RX-497
I am generally happy with this receiver. My only complaint is with the XM; however, that may be due to the antenna placements I have available. I would like to see an antenna aiming readout to help me best place my antenna.
Rating - xm ready or not?
Yamaha 497, xm ready receiver works well, a little taxing to learn all the features and lighted symbols. Power on/off is quirky. For xm it needs a tuner and antenna, plus cables. Audiovox makes the tuner, a model 2000. One also needs an Audiovox 2000H antenna and junction box which they call a "dock". The antenna has 20 feet of cable with it,which plugs into it, and the dock comes with a short cable to plug into the receiver and dock. The dock also has a recepticle for the tuner, which plugs into it.The dock is a small piece of plastic, rather flimsy , but serves it purpose. If you need more cable and a better antenna one can connect RG6 cable to the dock port and to the better antenna such as the Terk xm6.
Rating - Great Stereo Reciever
I purchased Yamaha RX-497 because my old ONKYO stopped working. I decided to buy this stereo receiver because I listen to music CDs most of the time, and ONKYO's TX-8522 doesn't have a subwoofer output. I cannot be happier!
The purity and depth of the sound is just amazing! I love the "pure direct" button which allows me enjoy the music in its original form (the receiver still outputs to the subwoofer in "pure direct" mode). The headphone jack can drive my Sennheiser HD600 beautifully!
