Bought this reciever to go with Klipsch Quintet II speakers I also purchased on this site. I purchased the reciever for $199.00 and am very pleased. I see a lot of reviews that rate this product bad because the HDMI is video only, both this site and Onkyo's website state that HDMI is pass through only, there is not any reciever in this price range that has true HDMI capabilities so I do not understand their bad reviews. Anyway, my system is set up in a room 15x15 and I have added a simple Sony 100watt sub I recieved from my brother and the quality and clarity of sound far exceeds my expectations!!! My brother commented that this system easily compares to the one he has in his basement with Bose speakers. He is currently looking into purchasing this reciever or possibly the SR605 also from Onkyo. I found the Onkyo very simple to setup and very user friendly. If you are looking for great mid level home theater and music listening experiences at entry level price, then this Onkyo is for you!!! Would easily reccomend this unit to anyone!!!

- Disappointing Quality and Service
Purchased this Onkyo TX- SR505 for Christmas. Onkyo TX-SR505 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) Discovered it had an intermittent video problem. Contacted Onkyo NJ in March to get warranty service. They insisted the unit be sent to a service facility in Syracuse NY. The cost to me was almost 30% of the purchase price. Amazon was no help either. As I explained to Onkyo, the problem takes hours to appear and disappear and surely no one is going to spend that much time troubleshooting the receiver economically. Onkyo should have offered to exchange the defective one for a new one as I requested.

I was also disappointed by the lack of pre amp outputs. The HDMI, component and video outputs are all pass through. That means it only outputs a video signal if that is the type it receives. It has no on screen status reporting thus it is very difficult to use in a remote location.

Purchased a Onkyo DVD Changer at the same time. It too has problems as it skips and stops. It also drops disks below the turntable.

Have not had good luck with my Onkyo or Amazon electronic purchases. I can't recommend either.

I am very happy with this product - update to the previous 505 with the addition of HDMI switching.

The sound is great and the setup was very easy. One note if you are only attaching 5 speakers, the rear speakers should be connected to the surround r and surrount l posts and not rear l and rear r. This makes the autosetup work properly (otherwise you get an error message).
