Rating - Form over function
I have used a sub $30 jabra bt125 for the past year and have been very happy with its performance. My friends however would complain about the sound quality so I wanted something with noise cancellation. The jawbone has been unanimously the top pick from every source I can find. The ratings for this unit are either manufactured or provided by people who are more enamoured with the look than the functionality.
While others tell me that they can hear me fairly well, the audio I get is scratchy, and not very loud (using with iphone). The buttons are completely conceled and when I try to adjust the unit get inadvertently pressed, cutting people off. Trying to use the buttons is extremely awkward.
I am going to try the plantronics discovery 925 which a friend tells me is working very well for him.
I guess if you think the jawbone is too cool looking to pass up then be my guest but functionally this thing is a joke.
Rating - Excellent earpiece, but doesn't live up to expectations
When deciding to spend $100 on a BlueTooth earpiece, you have expectations that you wish to be met. While in large part this unit does what it says, it misses in one important area.
The "Noise Assassin" feature does not produce the dramatic reduction in noise that their marketing will have you believe. Their video demonstration of the unit shows a lady walking through a construction zone, turning on the noise assassin feature, and you can then only hear her voice.
My personal experience is nothing like that. It works fantastic in a quiet environment - better than any other I've used. It absolutely does filter out background noise...if it's not loud. In cases where I'm walking down busy city street, it doesn't appear to filter nearly as much background noise.
This product gets 4 out of 5 stars because I do like it a lot. When I'm driving in my car, it filters out all of the noise that other headsets do not. However, in a noisy environment it doesn't live up to the claims of the manufacturer.
Even so, I still recommend this unit. I don't think it's worth the manufacturer recommended $120, but if you can get it for $75-$90 I think it's a good deal.
Rating - This Thing is an Expensive Junk Show
A friend did some research and the industry reviews said best of market for this thing. Well in the real world, junk. I bought a cheap Plantronics and it did the job clearer, better and with a better fit, largely due to the better design.
