AVCHD Flash Memory in a Compact Size The VIXIA HF10 is one of Canon's first AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) format Flash Memory camcorders. AVCHD uses an MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video codec, recording true 1080 High Definition resolution video. An advantage of the AVCHD format is that it captures twice as much video using less storage, which enhances the extended recording time possible with Flash Memory, up to 6 hours 5 minutes in LP mode with the internal memory.

The advantages of Flash Memory go beyond the added recording time. You'll also appreciate the quick response time, because it doesn't have to wait for moving parts. Press the record button and your VIXIA HF10 starts recording video faster than you've ever seen before. In addition, when you review your footage, it will come up more quickly as well.

Please note: 1920 x 1080 movie recording requires a Class 4 or higher memory card. For other recording formats, a Class 2 or higher card is recommended. Also, movie recording requires cards with 128 MB of memory or more. Cards made by Toshiba, SanDisk or Matsushita are recommended. No particular restrictions apply for still images.

Dual Flash Memory: 16GB internal Flash drive & SDHC card slot What makes the VIXIA HF10 stand out in the category of Flash Memory camcorders is its Dual Memory capability. You can capture video on both the camcorder's internal 16 GB Flash Memory as well as onto an SDHC Memory Card.

Video stored on the internal memory can also be copied onto the memory card which can then be inserted into your computer or HDTV's card reader slot for immediate viewing. It is also possible to transfer still images recorded to the SDHC card to the internal memory.

I bought a top of the line SD camera with a 50 zoom. I could not stand the "video tape quality" of the video so I got this HD one. I am new to camcorders but good with electronics. I am amazed with the quality of the sound and HD video. The controls seem quite intuitive and I think they have got their act together. I am not easy to please but if this holds up over time I will be further amazed as things are not built to last these days. This is not good. Have to have the AVCHD recorder DW100 to use ... Very good quality, I played it on my samsung HDTV...the picture is stunning. A UV FIlter is definitely a neccessity. Must buy extra battery with more juice. The only bad thing is the software that is included, better buy Sony Vegas 9.0 the version that edits AVCHD and I will wait until BD Write is cheaper to burn it.
