AVCHD Flash Memory in a Compact Size The VIXIA HF10 is one of Canon's first AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) format Flash Memory camcorders. AVCHD uses an MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video codec, recording true 1080 High Definition resolution video. An advantage of the AVCHD format is that it captures twice as much video using less storage, which enhances the extended recording time possible with Flash Memory, up to 6 hours 5 minutes in LP mode with the internal memory.

The advantages of Flash Memory go beyond the added recording time. You'll also appreciate the quick response time, because it doesn't have to wait for moving parts. Press the record button and your VIXIA HF10 starts recording video faster than you've ever seen before. In addition, when you review your footage, it will come up more quickly as well.

Please note: 1920 x 1080 movie recording requires a Class 4 or higher memory card. For other recording formats, a Class 2 or higher card is recommended. Also, movie recording requires cards with 128 MB of memory or more. Cards made by Toshiba, SanDisk or Matsushita are recommended. No particular restrictions apply for still images.

Dual Flash Memory: 16GB internal Flash drive & SDHC card slot What makes the VIXIA HF10 stand out in the category of Flash Memory camcorders is its Dual Memory capability. You can capture video on both the camcorder's internal 16 GB Flash Memory as well as onto an SDHC Memory Card.

Video stored on the internal memory can also be copied onto the memory card which can then be inserted into your computer or HDTV's card reader slot for immediate viewing. It is also possible to transfer still images recorded to the SDHC card to the internal memory.

I have had quite the myriad of camera in the time I've been doing video. I started using my Kodak Z812 IS Camera, which is a great camera, but takes less than steller video - even if it is 720p. I upgraded to an Aiptek Action HD Camera that offered 1080p video along with a host of other features. I bought this camera a month back as I needed a High Definition for best quality and Flash drive for light weight. Though I was very happy with the picture quality even on my 50inch plasma, but I was very very dissapointed with its very limited focus of 12x. Also when you zoom the autofocus doesn't work properly with blurred picture. You need atleast 25X optical zoom else you have to run close to every object and that's not why you need a camcorder. After doing a lot of comparative research between the HF10, the HF11, and the comparable Sony camcorders, I purchased the HF10 for the following reasons:
